Jakarta Governor and Transjakarta Plant Mangroves at CarbonEthics’ Kepulauan Seribu Site

On 4 July 2025, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung was on a visit to Kepulauan Seribu. Along with Transjakarta, he planted mangroves at one of CarbonEthics’ restoration sites, accompanied by our CEO Bimo Soewadji. This activity demonstrated collective efforts to protect Jakarta’s natural coastline.

Kepulauan Seribu holds a special place in CarbonEthics’ journey. It is the first site where CarbonEthics began its mangrove restoration efforts. What started as a small-scale initiative has grown into a long-term program rooted in science, collaboration, and community. Having this site visited by the Governor of Jakarta and Transjakarta reflects how far we have come. From our first planting activity to receiving recognition from city leaders, this moment shows the increasing importance of nature-based solutions in Jakarta’s climate resilience efforts.

A blue banner reads “Merawat Bumi untuk Masa Depan” (Caring for the Earth for the Future), part of a joint mangrove planting and CSR program by Transjakarta and DKI Jakarta. The banner is surrounded by lush green mangroves.

The visit offered an opportunity for Transjakarta to see the restoration site and engage with our team on the ground. It was a chance to share perspectives on Jakarta’s environmental challenges and highlight the role of mangrove ecosystems in supporting coastal resilience and sustainability.

While Transjakarta is best known for leading Jakarta’s shift to cleaner and more efficient public transport, this visit reflected a growing awareness that sustainability is not limited to urban mobility. Engaging with coastal restoration efforts shows a deeper understanding of how environmental health is interconnected with the city’s future.

CarbonEthics emphasized the importance of collaboration across sectors, especially between public service institutions and environmental organizations. The presence of both Transjakarta and Jakarta’s leadership signals a willingness to align strategies in addressing shared climate challenges.

Our CEO, Bimo Soewadji, attended the visit alongside our field team, reinforcing CarbonEthics’ commitment to working hand in hand with stakeholders in building climate resilience on the ground. Leadership-level participation plays an important role in strengthening trust, shared understanding, and long-term partnership potential.

This visit also underlined the value of immersive, site-based experiences. Seeing restoration firsthand provides a more meaningful connection to the work than reports or presentations alone. It helps decision-makers understand the scale of the challenge and the real-world impact of solutions being implemented.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Governor Pramono Anung and Transjakarta for taking the time to visit and engage with our team and the local community. Their interest in ecosystem restoration is a powerful signal that Jakarta’s transition to a more sustainable future must involve both technological innovation and nature-based solutions.

Looking ahead, CarbonEthics remains committed to working with Transjakarta and other key institutions to build an urban future where environmental protection is at the core of development.

It’s inspiring to see environmental initiatives like mangrove planting in Kepulauan Seribu gaining momentum. Just like the Adam Sandler Happy Gilmore 2 Blue Jersey blends nostalgia with fresh style, efforts like these blend tradition with a sustainable future. Both are perfect examples of how small choices can make a lasting impact.
