CarbonEthics at the ASEAN Blue Economy Regional Socialization Workshop 2026

As ASEAN advances the development of its Blue Economy Implementation Plan (2026–2030), regional dialogue continues to play an important role in shaping practical approaches for implementation.
On 29–30 July 2026, CarbonEthics participated in the ASEAN Blue Economy Regional Socialization Workshop in Manila, Philippines, represented by Bimo Soewadji, our Co-Founder and CEO.he workshop was convened as part of the development of the ASEAN Blue Economy Implementation Plan (2026–2030), supported by the Government of Australia through the Australia for ASEAN Futures Initiative (Aus4ASEAN Futures).
Convened by the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources & Security (ANCORS), the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre (BE CRC), and the ASEAN Secretariat, the workshop brought together representatives from ASEAN Member States alongside development partners, researchers, and private sector stakeholders to review and refine the draft ASEAN Blue Economy Roadmap.
Over two days, discussions were structured around the Roadmap's five capitals: Financial, Physical, Human, Social, and Natural, exploring their respective value propositions, implementation priorities, indicative indicators, and best practices to support the Roadmap's continued development.
Mobilizing Finance for Community-Based Blue Carbon Projects
As part of the Financial Capital panel, Mobilizing Finance to Support ASEAN Blue Economy Implementation, Bimo joined fellow speakers to share CarbonEthics' experience in implementing mangrove and seagrass conservation projects across Indonesia, including in the Riau Islands, Bali, Kepulauan Seribu, Karawang, Aceh, and West Kalimantan.
The discussion focused on one of the key challenges in advancing ASEAN's Blue Economy: strengthening the bankability of community-based blue carbon projects so they become investment-ready for both public and private financiers. Drawing on CarbonEthics' implementation experience, Bimo shared perspectives on the importance of building projects that create long-term value for both communities and ecosystems.
"Resilient blue carbon projects are built when protecting mangroves is not only an environmental responsibility, but also a sustainable source of livelihood for local communities," said Bimo Soewadji.
This perspective reflects CarbonEthics' belief that long-term ecosystem restoration is closely connected to community resilience. By integrating conservation efforts with sustainable livelihood opportunities, blue carbon projects can create enduring environmental and social value while strengthening their long-term viability.
