Mobilizing Climate Action with Transjakarta
As Jakarta's mobility grows, turning everyday commutes into climate action is crucial for go-to public transportation like Transjakarta. Through the #BersihBerdayaBestari initiative, Transjakarta partnered with CarbonEthics to restore the region's mangrove ecosystem, combating climate change while maintaining coastal biodiversity and protecting shorelines for the long term. CarbonEthics led the site selection to planting execution, working directly with local farmers who continue to nurture the mangroves, resulting in 50,800+ mangroves planted and an estimated 2,000+ tonnes of CO₂e sequestered over the next 20 years.
Beyond the planting itself, CarbonEthics and Transjakarta brought education on air pollution and mangrove restoration directly to Jakarta residents, with QR codes placed at bus stops across the city letting commuters scan, learn, and contribute to the mangrove restoration. The initiative received support from Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
