CarbonEthics Strengthens Forest Protection in Pulang Pisau PRESERVE by Establishing Forest Patrol Teams

Community-based forest monitoring plays an important role in maintaining ecosystem stability, preventing ecological disturbances, and supporting accountable forest management.
As part of strengthening the forest protection patrol system in the Pulang Pisau PRESERVE – Peatland Restoration and Fire Prevention, the CarbonEthics team has established Forest Protection Patrol teams within the project area.
The initiatives was followed by capacity building for the Social Forestry Group (KPS) involved in the Pulang Pisau PRESERVE. The training sessions were facilitated by relevant institutions, including Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD), Balai Perhutanan Sosial, and Dinas Kehutanan (KPH Kahayan Tengah).
The program also included the socialisation of patrol Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and technical training on the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) Patrol, a monitoring system that supports structured field data collection and strengthens the effectiveness of forest protection activities.
Through the establishment of these patrol teams, the program contributes to continuous monitoring and community stewardship of forest landscapes within the social forestry area.
