CarbonEthics was the Official Sustainability Partner for the 2024 Indonesia Net-Zero Summit (INZS), organized by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI). This climate conference convened key stakeholders, government officials, diplomats, activists, celebrities, youth, and civil society to discuss urgent climate issues and explore solutions to Indonesia’s environmental challenges.
Empowering Action with a New Theme: “S.O.S. Neraka Bocor: Climate Avengers Assemble!”
The INZS 2024 focused on the theme “S.O.S. Neraka Bocor: Climate Avengers Assemble!” to emphasize the critical state of our planet as temperatures near a dangerous threshold, surpassing the 1.5℃ limit. This theme calls for immediate and collective action, likening the efforts needed to that of “Climate Avengers” coming together to prevent environmental catastrophe. The conference highlighted that solutions to climate change are already around us and need to be activated to safeguard the future of humanity.
Held at the XXI Djakarta Theatre Ballroom, the summit on August 24, 2024, featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including Prof. Mari Elka Pangestu, Nadine Chandrawinata, Ridwan Kamil, Shinta Kamdani, and Mikha Tambayong. These influential figures brought diverse perspectives and expertise to the discussions, enriching the dialogue on climate action and sustainability.
The 'Climate Hero' Award
One of the summit's highlights was the "Climate Hero" Award session given to the Indonesian Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, and co-founder of Carbonethics, Innandya Kusumawardhani is one of the INZS consortium who had the opportunity to present the award, together with Dinopati Djalal (Chairman of FPCI).
The "climate hero" award to the Minister of Finance was in recognition of her outstanding contributions in efforts to combat climate change from an economic impact perspective. In her acceptance speech, Sri Mulyani highlighted the importance of collective action in the fight against climate change:
"I know very well that climate change is a challenge for humanity. So no one can claim to be the only hero for fighting climate change. So, I consider this Climate Hero Award to be returned to all of you so that every day you have the spirit to fight climate change," said Sri Mulyani.
Her words were a powerful reminder that combating climate change is a collective responsibility that requires the efforts of everyone—leaders, communities, and individuals alike.
Surga yang Terancam atau Terlindungi?: Kekayaan Indonesia untuk Solusi Iklim
In addition to presenting the award, Innandya Kusumawardhani also participated in a discussion session on Nature-based Climate Solutions “Surga yang Terancam atau Terlindungi?: Kekayaan Indonesia untuk Solusi Iklim”, where she highlighted the importance of natural ecosystems in mitigating climate change. She underscored the potential of reforestation, mangrove restoration, and sustainable agriculture as effective strategies for carbon sequestration and community resilience.
"We are honored to have been a part of this impactful summit and remain dedicated to our mission of creating a more sustainable Indonesia. We believe that through collective action and collaboration, we can make significant strides toward a net-zero future," said Innandya Kusumawardhani, Co-Founder of CarbonEthics.
Nature-Based Solutions: Harnessing Ecosystems for Climate Resilience
As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, the 2024 Indonesia Net-Zero Summit (INZS), organized by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), initiated the planting of 500 mangroves, which are projected to sequester 16,500 kgCO2e over the next 20 years. This initiative demonstrates a tangible effort to combat climate change through sustainable practices.
CarbonEthics Educates About The Blue Carbon Ecosystem
CarbonEthics also had the opportunity to share about carbon footprint and decarbonization with the participants of INZS, most of whom are young people. This initiative aims to inspire participants to adopt more sustainable lifestyles and contribute to the broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions.
The 2024 Net-Zero Summit was a valuable opportunity for CarbonEthics to engage with diverse stakeholders and promote actionable Natural Climate Solutions (NCS). As a sustainability partner in this event, CarbonEthics is committed to addressing climate change through innovative and community-based solutions. Our mission is to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices that protect our planet.
This event is a platform for raising awareness about carbon emissions and inspiring young people to take action towards achieving Indonesia's 2060 net zero goal. CarbonEthics proudly supports sustainability initiatives that are conducted with environmental responsibility.
Collaborate with us to demonstrate a sustainable practice to mitigate climate change!
