Strengthening Coastal Resilience on World Mangrove Day with Prudential Indonesia
Mangrove planting can be one way for organizations to turn sustainability commitments into direct environmental action. Through hands-on participation, these initiatives also give employees an opportunity to learn more about the ecosystems they are helping protect.
In conjunction with World Mangrove Day on 26 July 2026, Prudential Indonesia and CarbonEthics came together to plant 5,500 mangroves in Pulau Harapan, Kepulauan Seribu, DKI Jakarta. The activity involved 50 Prudential Indonesia employees and financial consultants, who participated directly in the planting and joined an educational workshop on mangrove ecosystems.
This marks the second collaboration between Prudential Indonesia and CarbonEthics since 2022, continuing the company’s sustainability efforts through mangrove planting initiatives. Pulau Harapan was selected as the planting location because of the importance of its coastal ecosystem. Mangroves help protect coastlines from abrasion and support biodiversity, including providing habitat for marine species such as sea turtles.
Maria Rosalinda, Chief Risk & Compliance Officer at Prudential Indonesia, shared:
“Prudential remains committed to supporting sustainable initiatives in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, reflected in our motto 'Prudential for the Planet.' Today's planting of 5,500 mangroves is not our first such initiative and will continue moving forward, and we hope this activity will bring meaningful benefits to the surrounding community.”
Beyond the planting activity itself, the 5,500 mangroves are estimated to sequester approximately 181.5 tCO₂e over the next 20 years, adding a measurable climate impact to the initiative.
Since 2022, Prudential Indonesia has planted a total of 30,800 mangroves through its various sustainability initiatives. The latest planting in Pulau Harapan adds to these ongoing efforts, contributing to healthier coastal ecosystems and measurable climate impact.
