OCEAN AND CLIMATE
The ocean makes up 71% of the planet and provides countless services to human communities, from mitigating weather extremes to generating the oxygen we breathe, from producing the food millions of people eat to serving as a major heat and carbon sink. Ocean and climate are inextricably linked. The climate crisis arguably presents the greatest threat to ocean health.
Blue carbon is the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems and can store up to 10 times more carbon than terrestrial forests, playing a critical role in addressing the climate crisis.
Unfortunately, this ecosystem is estimated to have the highest rate of destruction among any other ecosystem on Earth, with Indonesia’s mangrove ecosystem recorded to experience the fastest degradation rate in the world while, at the same time, holding the largest blue carbon stocks globally (accounting for 17 %).
WE NEED TO ACT
Protecting the ocean, its biodiversity and blue carbon ecosystems is essential to guarantee a healthy planet and secure the future of the next generations. We understand it takes one step at a time. That’s why we want to incentivize you to take the first one.
Make a pledge about one thing you will start changing today. Either changing your habits to reduce carbon emissions, planting trees, or producing less plastic waste. Every action will generate a positive impact on our planet and our ocean.
