CarbonEthics, FisTx, and SAMPAN Kalimantan Launch Silvofishery Pilot with 458,000 Shrimp Post-Larvae in Dabong Village

Symbolic ceremony with key stakeholders at the Indonesia-Verra MRA signing event

Kubu Raya, 16 September 2025 — CarbonEthics, together with FisTx and SAMPAN Kalimantan, officially launched a silvofishery program in Dabong Village, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. In this first phase, more than 458,000 vannamei shrimp post-larvae were released into three rehabilitated community ponds. This effort is not only about shrimp cultivation but about demonstrating how silvofishery and mangrove conservation can go hand in hand.

Silvofishery represents a nature-based approach to aquaculture. It integrates shrimp farming with mangrove restoration, creating a system that supports both livelihoods and the environment. For farmers, the model secures long-term pond productivity while strengthening community resilience. For coastal areas, it safeguards biodiversity and reinforces natural barriers against climate risks. Dabong Village is positioned as a pilot project of silvofishery in Kubu Raya Regency.

The program will be closely monitored for the next three to four months. Success indicators include shrimp survival rates, the overall health of the pond ecosystem, and measurable improvements in farmer income. By tracking these outcomes, the project can serve as a blueprint for replication in other coastal communities across Indonesia.

Checking process and quality of vannamei shrimp post-larvae by Bimo Soewadji, CEO of CarbonEthics

Bimo Soewadji, CEO of CarbonEthics, emphasized the importance of this pilot: “This profit-sharing scheme can help communities access funding for initial capital, pond rehabilitation, and shrimp seed. Our hope is that this trial succeeds and becomes an inspiration for local communities, governments, and other stakeholders. We believe this model can be replicated in many other ponds.”

CarbonEthics strengthens its mission to advance silvofishery that supports both people and nature. In Dabong Village, the program combines proven research-driven methods, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship to show how both can thrive together.
