On August 17, 2024, Indonesia celebrates its 79th Independence Day. CarbonEthics planted mangroves to commemorate the day in Pabean Ilir Village, Indramayu, West Java. Organized by KADIN Indonesia (Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), the event was part of the TERA Batch-1 (Take Environmental Regenerative Action) Program, which focuses on mangrove planting as a concrete step toward environmental recovery.
The program initiated by KADIN Indonesia involves several coalition partners, including Earth Security, PT Arunika Bumi Lestari (ABL), Earth Pledge, and CarbonEthics. The TERA program is serves as a lead-up to the upcoming 2024 Indonesian Sustainability Forum (ISF 2024) hosted by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment (CMMAI) together with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), a platform to foster collaborations and best practice sharing across stakeholders in decarbonization actions, ultimately advancing the global concerted effort in pursuing a sustainable growth.
Key stakeholders such as the Indramayu Regional Government, Triputra Agro Persada, National Food Agency, Bengkulu Mandiri, Cirebon Power, Pamerindo Indonesia, and Indonesia Energy & Engineering Series, and Mandiri Hijau Lestari also played a significant role in making this event a success. Their involvement underscores the need for collaboration in large-scale environmental initiatives.
Mangrove restoration is critical to protecting our coastlines, supporting biodiversity, and capturing carbon emissions. The planting in Pabean Ilir is an initial effort to rehabilitate mangrove ecosystems in Indonesia, with subsequent phases of the TERA program planned in other regions.
