On 4 July 2025, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung was on a visit to Kepulauan Seribu. Along with Transjakarta, he planted mangroves at one of CarbonEthics’ restoration sites, accompanied by our CEO Bimo Soewadji. This activity demonstrated collective efforts to protect Jakarta’s natural coastline.
Kepulauan Seribu holds a special place in CarbonEthics’ journey. It is the first site where CarbonEthics began its mangrove restoration efforts. What started as a small-scale initiative has grown into a long-term program rooted in science, collaboration, and community. Having this site visited by the Governor of Jakarta and Transjakarta reflects how far we have come. From our first planting activity to receiving recognition from city leaders, this moment shows the increasing importance of nature-based solutions in Jakarta’s climate resilience efforts.
The visit offered an opportunity for Transjakarta to see the restoration site and engage with our team on the ground. It was a chance to share perspectives on Jakarta’s environmental challenges and highlight the role of mangrove ecosystems in supporting coastal resilience and sustainability.
While Transjakarta is best known for leading Jakarta’s shift to cleaner and more efficient public transport, this visit reflected a growing awareness that sustainability is not limited to urban mobility. Engaging with coastal restoration efforts shows a deeper understanding of how environmental health is interconnected with the city’s future.
CarbonEthics emphasized the importance of collaboration across sectors, especially between public service institutions and environmental organizations. The presence of both Transjakarta and Jakarta’s leadership signals a willingness to align strategies in addressing shared climate challenges.
