Earlier this month, CarbonEthics was delighted to join IdeaFest 2026, one of Indonesia’s leading events bringing together voices from across industries and creative communities. CarbonEthics Co-Founder & CEO Bimo Soewadji shared the stage with Arya Dwi Paramita, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina, and Firdza Radiandy, Content Lead of IdeaFest 2026, with Audrey Utoyo in the panel session “The Human Core of Innovation: Integrity and Transparency in Our Carbon Journey”.
The panel asked what makes climate work trustworthy. For Bimo, the answer starts with the people who live closest to the ecosystems.

At CarbonEthics, communities are more than beneficiaries. They are partners in protecting and restoring the ecosystems around them. Local knowledge shapes how we plan and carry out restoration and conservation on the ground.
With carbon projects that can run for 40 years or more, over a timeframe that long, restoration depends on continuity. For this reason, CarbonEthics involves women and young people in the restoration activities, so the skills to restore and protect these ecosystems remain for the generations to come.

These skills can also grow beyond restoration itself. One example is Maklong, a woman farmer on Dompak Island, one of CarbonEthics’ project sites, who began protecting and planting mangroves through her local farmers' group. Four years later, she has developed a business and generates income from the mangrove ecosystem.
Her story shows how caring for an ecosystem and making a living from it can support each other. As people build skills and income around the place they protect, restoration can become part of a longer-term community development process.
For us, integrity in climate work means staying accountable to the people and places where it happens. Climate solutions last when the communities behind them have a real stake in the outcome.
